How Can I Reduce My Utility Bills

How Can I Improve My Appliance Efficiency? -- The three things in your home that can be looked into are your heating system, hot water heater and refrigerator.  First thing make sure these appliances are maintained.  Tune-up your furnace once a year.  Wrap the water heater to insulate it and you should also clean your refrigerator coils at least twice a year.  Contact your utility company and find out if a reduced rate is offered during certain times of the day and if they do then you should set a timer on your water heater so that it cycles during this period.
How Can I Lower My Water Bill? -- Fix all water leaks and install water saving showerheads.  You can also place a container filled with water, a brick or other heavy object in the toilet tank to conserve water.
How Can I Lower My Heating Bills? -- One thing you can do is turn down your thermostat three degrees, this can save you about 3% on your heating bills.   You can even turn it down even more when your go to bed and during the day when you are not even home, this can save you even more. Weather strip doors and windows and insulate the attic can help some some more
You Should Do Full Loads of Dishes and Laundry.  Do you know that your water heater is the second biggest consumer of energy in your home.   Your dishwashers use a lot of hot water so it might be a better idea to just wash the dishes by hand.   Washing a full load of clothing is the most economical way to use your washing machine and use cold water whenever possible.  Washing your clothes and dishes when the machines are just half full costs the average American household $700 to $900 in added utility fees each year also your dryer uses less energy if you dry groups of clothing one immediately after another. This can save energy because your dryer is already hot.
How Can I Lower my Long Distance Charges? -- Calling friends and relatives at night and on weekends can significantly lower your long distance telephone bill.  You can compare long distance packages between companies to try and get better costs.  Communicating via e-mail rather than using a telephone can save you some money.
